May 22 Webinar: Steps to Protect Your People and Ministry

Is your ministry ready to respond well to a report of harassment, spiritual abuse, or other harm? Are you doing enough to prevent this behavior before it occurs?

As part of its ongoing commitment to serve the church, Auxilio Partners is hosting a free webinar on Wednesday, May 22, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. (Eastern): “Bad Things Can Happen to Good Churches: Steps to Protect Your People and Your Ministry.”

Join us to learn three key steps you can take now to help ensure a safer, healthier ministry environment, where leadership is equipped to address concerns with both confidence and care.

Panelists include Melanie Acevedo, consultant specializing in HR and volunteer policy development, training, and investigations for churches and ministry organizations; and John Pearson, Associate Coordinator with Reformed University Fellowship. The webinar will be moderated by Denine Blevins, Executive Director of Parakaleo, a ministry that helps women involved in church planting around the world build gospel-rooted resilience and feel less alone.

“Our focus will be on designing and implementing protections for adults in the ministry environment, and taking an approach that is calm, rather than chaotic, and which is proactive, rather than merely responsive’” Acevedo said. “I’ve never met a ministry leader who didn’t want their organization to be a safe and healthy place to work and worship. Unfortunately, in my more than 30 years of serving in congregational life and ministry, I have seen that ministries often have gaps in this area.”

The webinar will focus on three key topics:

  1. Setting and communicating clear expectations for a church or ministry organization’s staff, leaders, and members;

  2. Designing and adhering to an effective response process; and

  3. Seeking subject matter support when further help is needed.

“We can and should be courageous about hard topics because nothing is beyond the redemption of the gospel,” Blevins noted.

Keith Moore, Auxilio’s Senior Partner, said the webinar is designed for all ministry leaders—whether staff or volunteer.

“We pray that no church ever experiences harassment or abuse,” Moore said. “But we know the impact of our fallen nature will show up eventually, and we want to do everything we can to help church leaders be prepared to respond with wisdom and grace when that happens.”
